GLOBAL DOUBLE STANDARDS
Robert Kuttner thinks we’re being inconsistent by, on the one hand, exporting low skill jobs to India to take advantage of their lower labor costs but, on the other hand, refusing to import drugs from India produced in violation if US patent and drug approval laws. Well…..no.
It may well be worth reconsidering our drug approval process and the length of patent and copyright protections. But these are separate arguments. A US company can’t reverse engineer a patented product and sell it here, either. Nor can a US company sell drugs that aren’t FDA approved.
