Slate keeps redesigning its site, but still manages to bury articles so that I find things I want to read two or three days late. Like this piece: God’s Coach - How Bill Parcells raised the Cowboys from the dead. The religious stuff is rather silly–does the Almighty hate the Arizona Cardinals?–but there are some amusing bits. My favorite:
Hanging around the Cowboys this season, I watched God’s coach work in mysterious ways. Parcells had surveyed his linebacker corps and compared the group to circus midgets. Guard Larry Allen, the pachyderm, was spending so much time off the practice field and on the exercise bike that Parcells presented him with a yellow jersey, a’ la Lance Armstrong.
And they say Parcells doesn’t have a sense of humor!

To claim that the Almighty hates the Cardinals is not only irreverent but downright blasphemous.
As everyone knows, God hates the Redskins.
(Oh, and he hates the Chicago Cubs too.)
Could be. Although he at least lets the Redskins win a Super Bowl every now and again. Even the lowly Bengals have at least gone to the Super Bowl. Twice. The poor Cardinals, though!
Well, see, the Cardinals moved to Arizona -- and all the players thought they were supposed to retire.
The Cardinals problem isn't God, it's Bill Bidwill. Worst. Owner. Ever.
