Hank Williams Jr. ‘McCain-Palin Tradition’ Video

Hank updated his classic “Family Tradition” for the 2008 presidential campaign:

While better than some of his MNF “Ready for Some Football” tunes, I must say that I prefer the original. And it may backfire: the site of someone in a Redskins jersey singing the praises of McCain and Palin might just turn Texas (Dallas Cowboys) blue.

At this point--at least--Texas is unlikely to turn Democrat. But with Virginia as a key battleground and must-win for McCain, appealing to Redskins fans makes sense.

It also is a subtle leveraging of the race card since "Redskin" is considered a derogatory term by the Indian lobby and many liberal, arugula-eating types. This shows to voters that McCain is a real maverick. I wonder how Palin's husband feels about it since he is apparently an Indian, himself.

Not according to the Annenberg Public Policy Center.

In a survey released in 2004, ninety percent of Native Americans stated that the name "Redskins" was acceptable. Nine percent found it to be offensive.

Indian lobby

The Indian Lobby is different than run-of-the-mill Indians, like Palin's old man.
