Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince to be Published July 16th (Monsters & Critics)
The sixth Harry Potter book will hit the streets 16 July next year, it has been announced. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince will be published in the UK, the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa all on the same day.
JK Rowling revealed on her site that she had completed the novel after originally saying she would announce details on Christmas Day. “Although I have joked about Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince racing my third baby into the world, I have in fact had all the time I needed to tinker with the manuscript to my satisfaction and I am as happy as I have ever been with the end result. I only hope you feel that it was worth the wait when you finally read it!”
Six books in seven years isn’t bad–although I presume the first several were essentially written by the time Rowling got her book deal.

I predict the book will eventually be made into a movie and that its successor will be named Harry Potter and the [something].
Update: I see Steven Taylor had the news very early this morning; I just noticed it on GoogleNews.

I think that one's slated for 2008 or thereabouts. The next one after that will be Harry Potter and the Sheer Futility of Trying to Come Up with Yet Another New and Interesting Plot for an Excessively Popular Series of Books.

Actually, the text on the first book is copyrighted 1997: I suspect that was when the UK edition came out.
Her pace has slowed quite a bit, and the three-year delay between Fire and Phoenix was hard on us grownup fans--and likely excruciating for the younger ones. So I'm glad she's settled back into producing them regularly again.
My concern lately has been whether it will be physically possible to continue making these as single volumes, given how long they are getting:

Prisoner of Azkaban, 435
Goblet of Fire, 734
Order of the Phoenix, 870
I used to gobble them up all in one day, but that wasn't possible with Fire and Phoenix--I had to break it up, which I hate to do with this type of book. Novels should be consumed as gluttonously as possible, IMHO.
