Hezbollah to Retain, Hide Weapons

“Hizbullah will not hand over its weapons to the Lebanese government but rather refrain from exhibiting them publicly, according to a new compromise that is reportedly brewing between Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Seniora and Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah,” reports the Jerusalem Post.

Well, that was certainly a result worth fighting for . . .

I'm shocked, shocked! But hey, a victory's a victory.

Indeed. I always thought the phrase "Declare victory and go home" was a joke but, apparently, it's now official policy.

The real question is if this is allowed to stand. This isn't the deal agreed to. If Israel agrees to the modification, then they deserve what they get.

If Israel publicly and presses the UN to stand up to the deal, this could work for Israel. Realistically, Kofi will think the modification is fine. But Israel should gear up for a much more aggressive attack, declare the modification is not acceptable and set a time that if Hezbollah does not live up to its side of the bargain, it will renew the attack. Maybe they can even work out a deal with the Lebanese government this time, though I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

That's what Nasrallah said the day after the resolution was passed IIRC. As I wrote this morning if HA doesn't put down its arms voluntarily, and the Lebanese army doesn't disarm them (which they've said they won't), and UNIFIL won't do it (which, as a Chapter VI force they're not equipped to do), how, precisely, does the UNSC expect to satisfy operative paragraph 3 of UNSC1701?

This is the result of one more UN Resolution that means absolutely nothing.

The UN is Useless and the US and Israel should tell all of them to "Go to Hell"

Man, I only wish I had the concession to inventory Katyusha rockets in Southern Lebanese houses about six months from now.

Being able to keep their weapons has people dancing in the streets at their fantastic victory.Only problem is they keep tripping over the rubble of what is left of their roads, bridges, safe houses ,power plants, TV stations, etc, etc, etc.
After the dancing they might bring in the bulldozers and the start pouring concrete for another six years and then start all over again.
End of Round Two (ah sweet victory according to the world of the"news")
