Right after the election, the DLC published a "Blueprint" with articles by its top officials, Al From, Bruce Reed and Will Marshall, that urges the party to widen its appeal beyond "blue" and "battleground" states to the "heartland," especially the nine that Bush won by margins of less than 10 percent: Florida, Ohio, West Virginia, Iowa, Missouri, Arkansas, Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada.

Kerry lost West Virginia by nearly thirteen percent.

I totally agree that Hillary is not to be underestimated. She has continually surprised her detractors and turned conventional wisdom on its head. When she ran for Senate in NY, no one thought she would spend anytime upstate, let along get much of a vote outside of Albany county. Yet she visited every upstate county and impressed people with her charm, knowlege of their issues and centrist positions. And they voted for her. These voters are not much different from those in rural Ohio, Pennsylvania and, to a lesser degree, Virginia and West Virginia. That has to worry the Republican party. The other worry is the woman factor. We've never had a woman with a real shot at the nomination and presidency. The uniqueness of that make it difficult to plan strategy. Will a woman cause a lot more turnout either for or against her? Will there be republicans crossing party lines to vote for her? Or democrats going the other way? Does society still require a bit more delicacy in attacking a woman?

The woman is willing to say anything to get herself into a position of power.

At which point she veers left.
She is not to be trusted with as much as a pencil.

I must follow the people. Am I not their leader?
—Benjamin Disraeli
—1804-1881, British Statesman, Prime Minister
(makes a little more sense here, can you please remove it from the "Woman Loses Father, Dad in Iraq" comments)
