Holiday Tipping Customs, Redux

Newsweek continues its custom of giving advice on how much to tip various people come holiday time with Tipping Points ‘Tis the season for spreading around the payola. But how much do you give? and its companion Naughty or Nice? TIPs complete guide to passing the bucks. Not surprisingly, the amounts have gone up since last year. As have the number of people whom they suggest we tip–including schoolteachers and postal service employees, both on the “don’t tip” list in 2003.
As with last year, I continue to scratch my head at the idea that I would tip people with whom I have incidental contact and are only doing a service for which I’m already paying. Of course, cabbies and waiters are just doing that, too, but the expectation of receiving tips are built into their wage structure.

Must be nice to be able to lobby one's "profession" onto the "do tip" list.
We need a national bloggers' lobby to get us on that list. My tipjar is growing cobwebs!
