The XFL went kicker-less for extra points. It was a big let down for a team to botch a two-point conversion after driving it into the end zone for a touchdown.

A friend in college was in a computer football league. In this particular game, you could spend points on positions. He spent the maximum possible on his kicker (I think he could kick 70 yarders) and the rest of the points went to the defense. He never used his offense...just punted whenever they got the ball. I believe he was undefeated and won their Super Bowl too.

Not that this story is relevant to the NFL in any way but it is an interesting look at how a nearly unthinkable strategy was successful simply because it rethought how to play within the structure of the game.

Good luck. I'd imagine that the kicking part is a big TV draw. Plus, how many times have you seen the kicker be the last line of defense on a long run back?

I will never support the upper east coast as long as that smirking dough-boy Tom Brady is masquerading as the "best player in the NFL", but Skip Bayless is an ass most notably known for his constant whinging and contrarianism. This is the man who claimed that Lance Armstrong was not really an athlete, after all. He's contemptible and a stain to every journalistic organization that hires him.

We here in New England could never support a "kicker-less" NFL. Perhaps after Vinateri retires.
