Sorry, I see his fingerprints all over the economic debacle that was the 1970s. Plus his admiration for the USSR's economy shows where his statist-oriented beliefs truly lay.

Respect the man, hated his ideas.

I always enjoyed listening to Galbreath, even though I did not agree with his lack of enthusiasm for the power of the entrepreurial sector, and his faith in bureaucratic planning.

His manner of speaking was elegant and he used a wonderful sense of humor to make his points.

To me there was no question that he had a powerful intellect.

[...] James Joyner at Outside the Beltway: Galbraith led an amazing life and had an influence on the national discussion few scholars of the 20th Century matched. That I disagree with most of his policy prescriptions or that, as noted in the Times obit, many economists criticized him for lack of mathematical rigor, hardly seems important. [...]

Galbraith also forwarded the cause of the women's equal rights movement by writing of the enormous uncounted contribution homemakers make to the American economy. We need more forward thinkers like him.
