Liveblogging from CPAC, James Joyner has the text of John McCain's speech and some initial reactions: McCain’s speech was conciliatory, praising Mitt Romney as “a great governor” and Mike Huckabee as a “great man” (or...

McCain is going to make Bush's tax cuts permanent? Since when? Hasn't he voted against the Bush tax cut and furthermore is he now saying this just to appease conservative voters who are mad as hell at him for his stand on immigration, campaign finance reform and these same Bush taxes? A leopard cannot change his spots.

Have there been any reports of booing or was that just expected by those who see the party in disarray?

Even if there were booing, it is important to remember that this meeting is NOT a Republican party event. CPAC has nothing to do with the party.

You admire Tom Coburn, who believes the most pressing issue facing Oklahomans is rampant lesbianism in the public schools? Who in 2004 said that homosexuality "is the greatest threat to our freedom that we face today"? You admire this simpleton?

Have there been any reports of booing or was that just expected by those who see the party in disarray? You know, the ones talking as if Republicans are at each others throats over the conservative credentials of the candidates.

As I expected McCain will be accepted by the party just as Romney, Huckabee, Thompson, or whoever. Those wanting a more conservative candidate will have to wait until next time. That would include me. Now it's time to get together and work for a McCain presidency instead of another Clinton one.
