Look to the Blogoshpere (Right and Left). Nightly News Anchors have been passe' since Huntley and Brinkley left the airwaves.

I stopped watching TV news even before H&B quit. I considered all the networks to be Ministeries of Propaganda for the underground communist movement in the country. But that's besides the point.

What CBS had been doing wasn't working. Rather than just tweak around the edges, they plunged into the unknown in a brash fashion. I admire that. If it had worked, they would be declared geniuses. Okay, so the plan proved less than perfect, but at least they showed some balls.

Hiring Couric was a bold attempt to rescue a dying business. I applaud the fact that someone at CBS had the nerve to grab for the brass ring. True, it failed, but it is unlikely that any news anchor would have been the silver bullet. It's easy for the nay-sayers to play Monday morning quarterback, however, I don't see them offering any constructive alternatives.

One of the reasons CBS has such pitiful numbers is the network's consistent anti-American bias. Katie Couric first came to the public's notice as a Pentagon reporter during Gulf War the First. She parlayed her looks (a prototype for 'News Babes') and her supposed 'perkiness' into a position on the stereotypical early morning News & Entertainment program. Anyone who thinks someone with Katie's reputation could fill the role of a 'News Anchor' is engaging in wishful thinking. The paltry (and falling) numbers reflect the American Public's preference for serious anchors.

If there was ever any doubt about Couric's political leanings, though, they will all be removed by her transition to King's venue, which is by definition less dependant on the illusion of being 'unbiased".
