Rather than just tweak around the edges, they plunged into the unknown in a brash fashion. I admire that. If it had worked, they would be declared geniuses. Okay, so the plan proved less than perfect, but at least they showed some balls.

I applaud the fact that someone at CBS had the nerve to grab for the brass ring. True, it failed, but it is unlikely that any news anchor would have been the silver bullet. It's easy for the nay-sayers to play Monday morning quarterback, however, I don't see them offering any constructive alternatives. Hiring Couric was a bold attempt to rescue a dying business. She parlayed her looks (a prototype for 'News Babes') and her supposed 'perkiness' into a position on the stereotypical early morning News & Entertainment program. Anyone who thinks someone with Katie's reputation could fill the role of a 'News Anchor' is engaging in wishful thinking.
