A standard cat will heat up the lap a lot more than that -- and if you try to dislodge it before it's good and ready to leave, you'll have other injuries to worry about.

This may be true in the case of the old PowerBook 5300c, which literally burst into flame. That could do it.

I've seen very, very few people actually use a laptop on their laps. If there's not a table available, then they'll us the arm of a chair to precariously balance it on.

I've had my three kids, so who cares?

Actuawlly: my laptop gets too hot to just usea s a literal laptop without putting on something else.
