Late Night OTB – America

In anticipation of tomorrow’s celebration of Independence Day, I had hoped to share Robert Earl Keen’s “4th of July.” Sadly, I was unable to find a decent video version of it.* Instead, I present this collection of decidedly different takes on the “America” theme.

Waylon Jennings:

Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel:

Neil Diamond:

John Mellencamp:

*This has been surprisingly common with this series. I’m not sure what it says about my musical tastes that so few of my favorites are on YouTube, although I have my hypotheses.

Good call on Robert Earl Keen. Not enough folks know about him.

I would add the following:

Paul Simon singing “American Tune.”

Lee Greenwood singing God Bless America for our troops in Pakistan. I saw him sing this at a St. Louis Blues game live shortly after 9/11. It was awfully intense.

For what it’s worth, thanks for providing a forum for an outstanding collection of folks.
