Parents Selling List of Terri Schiavo Donors

Terri Schiavo’s parents are selling the list of their financial supporters via a conservative direct marketing firm.

List of Schiavo Donors Will Be Sold by Direct-Marketing Firm (NYT)

The parents of Terri Schiavo have authorized a conservative direct-mailing firm to sell a list of their financial supporters, making it likely that thousands of strangers moved by her plight will receive a steady stream of solicitations from anti-abortion and conservative groups. “These compassionate pro-lifers donated toward Bob Schindler’s legal battle to keep Terri’s estranged husband from removing the feeding tube from Terri,” says a description of the list on the Web site of the firm, Response Unlimited, which is asking $150 a month for 6,000 names and $500 a month for 4,000 e-mail addresses of people who responded last month to an e-mail plea from Ms. Schiavo’s father. “These individuals are passionate about the way they value human life, adamantly oppose euthanasia and are pro-life in every sense of the word!”

Privacy experts said the sale of the list was legal and even predictable, if ghoulish. “I think it’s amusing,” said Robert Gellman, a privacy and information policy consultant. “I think it’s absolutely classic America. Everything is for sale in America, every type of personal information.”

Executives of Response Unlimited declined to comment. Gary McCullough, director of the Christian Communication Network and a spokesman for Ms. Schiavo’s parents, confirmed that Mr. Schindler had agreed to let Response Unlimited rent out the list as part of a deal for the firm to send an e-mail solicitation raising money on the family’s behalf.

Amazing.

I was appalled at the parents of Terri Schiavo "renting" out the use of the list of financial contributors. Just as I am appalled that Michael Schiavo stands to inherit money from starving his wife to death!!!!!!! In this country it is apparent to me that nothing, even a human life is sacred anymore........as long as there is a buck to be made somewhere for someone. SICK!

I find this pretty appalling, although there seems to be some dispute over whether or not the Schindler's understood this is what they were doing.

But selling donor lists is apparantly a pretty common occurance among almost all charities now-right, left or unaffiliated.

This isn't a traditional charity, though, but rather a group of people supposedly trying to help out a specific family in a tragic situation.

Anticipatory grief is probably affecting their decisions, so I hope he didn't realize what he did when he agreed to this. But still: Ewwww!

This is GRAVE ROBBING of the worst kind. I will NEVER ever lend my support to any other form of online petition from this day forward, regardless of it's political or social message.

"Amazing."

No, not 'amazing.' Sickening.

So, it is all about the money then.
Who would have guessed?

When I first read this I was annoyed as I am going to be one of those on the list. However, as a staunch supporter of Terri and the Schindler family, I can understand why they agreed to sell the list.Someone offered them money and they see this as an opportunity to generate needed funds to help fight for their daughter's life. I am quite sure they are desperate at this, the 11th hour.I would do the same for my own child, if I were in their position. Remember the horrors of what they are going through and don't be too hard on them just now.
***God bless you, Terri***
