Their force recon units would be easily used in direct action or special recon type missions. The Navy Seals and Army Rangers tend to emphasize these types of operations. Yes, I know their mission statement contain all five of the main mission but their main focus has been those two. Or will the marines’ main focus be on unconventional warfare and counter insurgency operations. The need is for UW and CI operations but these tend to be less glamorous. Time will tell.
