Mark Warner Really Wants to Spend Time With His Family

James Carney allows that Mark Warner, who announced yesterday he would not be a candidate for president in 2008, might be an exception to the rules that politicians who say they’re doing something “to spend more time with my family” are liars.

The best "spend time with the family" plea came earlier this week from Deborah Lehr--Treasury Secretary Paulson's top China expert. She had only been in the job for 3 weeks!

I hope this isn't a harbinger of an effort undermine Paulson's independence. He is probably the only Bush cabinet member with any actual public credibility.

Of course, Warner is a bit more believable because he's not currently in government. Its not like there's anything for him to run from, because he hasn't done anything bad yet. His tenure as the Virginia governor was pretty good - most likely, if something was going to fatally dog him from his governor days, we'd at least know what it is by now.
