The crazy thing is, a Democrat political pundit here in Georgia was arguing that Republicans want McKinney in Congress so we could paint all Democrats as lunatics.

I took that as a message to Democrats in the 4th District that they needed to vote for Johnson. Furthermore, Johnson was doing pretty well in former McKinney strongholds.

Blaming McKinney's defeat on Republicans is like saying a plane wouldn't have crashed if the ground hadn't been there.

What does your comment have to do with McKinney, other than she's a Democrat, and lost. Of course, the real story is that she lost because of racism, you know those Zionist MF-ers. You really need ot catch up.

I seem to remember very clearly the last primary here (hint: first in the nation)with people being bussed in from MA and VT. You couldn't find a parking space in town, they were all taken by out of state plates.

“number of GOP ballots cast in the previous GOP primary”......what exactly does this number have to do with the price of tea in China? If we were looking for the "pool" of possible crossover republicans wouldn't we look at the number who actually voted republican in the general election and then subtract the number who voted in the republican primary?

I am not defending her......where did you get that?

I was just wondering if there was anyone that thought it was a good idea that the opposition party could choose who was going to be on the ballot in November....in this case crossover republicans who have absolutely no intention of voting for a democratic candidate in November deciding who is on the Democrat's ballot.

I have no problem with an open primary, but it would seem that the integrity of an open primary is wholly dependant on people who believe in the Democratic process. A person that goes into the opposition's primary and casts a vote for a candidate that he has no intention of voting for in November is a person that DOES NOT support the Democracy.

really, this is NOT a triumph for Democracy........this is just another nail in the coffin of Democracy placed there by the republican party

To Walter's point, the DeKalb Co. Board of Elections has repeatedly shown that the Republican crossover vote is a myth. They were able to demonstrate, for example, in McKinney's loss to Majette in 2002, that if you take the number of GOP ballots cast in the previous GOP primary and subtract that number from Majette's total, Majette still wins. McKinney sued in 2002 to have the vote overturned based on Republican crossover voting but the suit was dismissed based on this analysis and the fact that Georgia has no party registration -- no one is a Republican, a Democrat or an Independent until they choose a ballot at the polling place. And they can choose another party next time.

I'm glad ms mckinney has been outed as the racist hatemonger nut case that she is and was. she has no place as a u.s representative.

To me, this is the perfect way for people to make their voices heard. The Republicans in her district are never going to be represented by one of their own. The only way for them to effectively participate in the democratic process is to cast a vote in the opposing primary (forgoing their own) in hopes of electing the "lesser evil."

Why are you so intent on defending her? She's clearly a nutcase, no matter the letter next to her name. I place myself firmly in the liberal camp, but I am glad to see her gone. If it was Republicans that cost her the primary, let me give them a very sincere thank you for ridding us of her.
