Men Prefer Bachelorhood to Bad Marriage

Breaking News from Reuters: Men don’t like bad marriages.
Bachelor Carl Weisman got fed up of being classified as a playboy, a loser or a commitment-phobe so he set out to find out exactly why he and a growing number of eligible men were steering clear of marriage. Weisman, 49, conducted a survey of 1,533 heterosexual men to research a book aiming to give women an insight into why some smart, successful men opted to stay single — and help lifelong bachelors understand why they are still the solo man at parties.
He concluded that most men were not afraid of marriage — but they were afraid of a bad marriage. “Men are 10 times more scared of marrying the wrong person than of never getting married at all,” Weisman told Reuters in a telephone interview.
If this sells, I’m going to pitch a book explaining why men prefer watching football games while sipping a cold one to doing yardwork in the hot sun. Indeed, this could spawn a whole series of books drawing incredibly obvious conclusions.

Isn't everyone scared of marrying the wrong person?
At least this wasn't funded by a federal grant or done by a major university.
To play the devil’s advocated. Yes this is an obvious conclusion but how many study and books have been done about women and man thinking differently. Sometimes it is not the conclusion but the specifics that is interesting.
Most non older bachelors would assume the fear of commitment is the main reason for old bachelors and this study refutes that. Males have greater concerns with ending up in a bad marriage since they are typically taking to the cleaners afterwards especially if there are children involved. It is getting better but they are far from being evenly treated in divorce court.

I have been single for a couple of decades. Being single is fabulous; finding the pleasures of marriage can be fulfilled with a visit or two to the truck stop every week.
It is far more satisfying and a hell of a lot cheaper.
The combination of radical feminism and sexual freedom (for men too) why risk buying a car that steers itself in the opposite direction?
The simple fact is that marriage as a sacred commitment between two believers who seek the same goals in life (including raising a family), is seldom the motivation for getting married any longer.
