Mitt Romney Quitting?

CNN’s John King and Dana Bash suggest that Mitt Romney may be ready to drop his White House bid.

Mitt Romney Dropping Out? Mitt Romney and top aides and advisers plan to huddle Wednesday to discuss the future of his campaign, including whether to launch an advertising buy in upcoming primary states.

Romney vowed late Tuesday to press on, though top advisers acknowledged the delegate match was daunting.
“It is tough to saddle up this AM,” said one top Romney adviser who spoke only on condition of anonymity.

Romney has poured more than $35 million of his personal fortune into the campaign, and after a rough Super Tuesday faces a decision of whether to spend more. Several advisers said there was a plan, in place before the Tuesday votes were counted, to begin advertising in the Washington, DC and Baltimore markets. Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia hold primaries next Tuesday.

There are certainly some states ahead that he can win. Still, with Mike Huckabee emboldened by last night’s wins and likely to remain in the race, I don’t see an obvious path to the nomination. The question, then, becomes how much of his family’s money is he willing to spend chasing windmills?

"The question, then, becomes how much of his family’s money is he willing to spend chasing windmills?"

It's his own money, James.

It's his own money, James.

I'm not trying to insinuate that he hasn't earned the money, just that others might have an interest in him not spending it foolishly.

Massachusetts is an Equitable Distribution State, wherein "All property, no matter how or when acquired, is considered marital property." Beyond the legalities, though, one presumes Romney has an interest in making sure his family continues to live in the lifestyle to which they've become accustomed.

Yeah, but the dude is worth $500 million. He's only spent $40 million--as Ralph Kramden would say, "A mere bag of shells..."

He's only spent $40 million

Well, there is that...

Still, don't people that rich just live off the interest? Taking 10 percent or more off that top (I'm figuring it'll take another $10M at least to keep fighting) makes that harder, no?

Romney should fight on!!!!

Well, Bush has not quite succeeded in turning America into a fascist state, so if you are inclined that way, I can see why Romney should fight on...

Romney might not quit. Here is an interesting article about why he might not quit and instead, throw his support to Huckabee. click here.

Romney is not that smart a businessman. If he stays in, it is just out of spite, and spending that kind of money is stupid. But I suspect he will stay in just to cause havoc. He is not a patriot, he is a scoundral who can financially afford a temper tantrum, while the rest of the country faces economic catastrophe. He should get out know and get a real job, or join the military and see what life is all about.
