MOVIE RATINGS

Brian Weatherson is a bit perplexed by a NYT movie review:

“28 Days Later” is rated R (Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian). It has many scenes of maiming, dismemberment, clubbing, shooting, bayoneting and shoplifting.

One would think that the maiming and whatnot would indeed dull one’s senses toward the shoplifting. Perhaps it happens first? Or, maybe, it’s a morality tale in which a person shoplifts and is subseqently maimed, dismembered, clubbed, shot, and bayonetted?

About the Author: James Joyner is the publisher of Outside the Beltway and the managing editor of the Atlantic Council. He's a former Army officer, Desert Storm vet, and college professor with a PhD in political science from The University of Alabama. He lives just outside the Beltway in Alexandria, Virginia with his wife and infant daughter.

Actually, during the main "shoplifting scene" the so-called "shoplifters" left a credit card at the checkout lane, so there really wasn't all that much shoplifting. In fact, the only shoplifting was when they smashed vending machines.

Probably the oddest thing is why they didn't raid Buckingham or Kensington palaces. (I personally like Kensington as that is the neighborhood I usually stay in and I used to have the hots for Di.)
