Naked Chocolate Jesus Exhibit Canceled

A New York gallery has canceled its naked chocolate Jesus exhibit after receiving protests.
A Manhattan art gallery canceled on Friday its Easter-season exhibit of a life-size chocolate sculpture depicting a naked Jesus, after an outcry by Roman Catholics. The sculpture “My Sweet Lord” by Cosimo Cavallaro was to have been exhibited for two hours each day next week in a street-level window of the Roger Smith Lab Gallery in Midtown Manhattan.
Who could have anticipated controversy over this?

Maybe I havent been looking in the right places, but I havent yet seen the Danish-cartoon coalition fighting against Donahue et al. the way they fought against attempts to stifle the cartoon art. Whys that?

There were death threats against the hotel hosting the exhibit.
I'm curious what you all think of Donahue's statement and whether there is any link to the threats
While I am not much of a fan of sacreligious style art, I don't much get the outcry over this one.
Jesus naked? Doesn't really bother me, since the Romans did crucify people naked-the nice little loin clothe was to preserver our modesty.
Chocolate? Doesn't really bother me that much either. I can sort of see a pro religious point with regards to comemrcialization of easter with all the chocolate bunnies out there.
This seems more like protesters that may need a thicker skin.

Anticipated? Yes. Cared? No.

I think you are wrong.
The Danish cartoon coalition was based on standing up for free speech.
Thats why the cartoons were reproduced in many places. By standing up, the principle of free speech was protected.
This gallery show was shut down. Free speech lost. And almost all of the Danish cartoon coalition was either silent, or on the side of the censors.
Bunch of hypocritical blowhards with no real principles, rather just fighting for one team over another.
To be honest, I kinda suspected that all along.

This sculpture isn't much different than ones prominently displayed in almost every Catholic church. Except those are made of stone and don't display a part of the body shared by 50% of the world.
