Newfoundland Crab Boats Force Canadian Navy Destroyer Back Out To Sea…

Globe and Mail:

One ship was waiting outside St. John’s harbour Tuesday and another was waiting to leave as crab fishermen blocked the port’s entry for a second day. There were unconfirmed reports that a second, smaller group of fishing vessels blocked entry to Bay Bulls harbour, south of St. John’s, early Tuesday.

A Canadian navy destroyer was unable to dock in Newfoundland as planned. “He’s gone back to sea,” said Richard McKenzie of the Canadian Coast Guard’s marine traffic services.

A question of superior firepower, no doubt.

Gotta love the Newfies. They are one of the few remaining ports of free thinking independents in Canada.

I so love that story! Unfortunately we are land-bound in Alberta so can't send reinforcements (to the Newfies, not the navy).

Give 'em hell!
