This will be thought corny, I'm sure, but I was among those who was disappointed one the Mamas and the Papas broke up, and was surprised to find that Cass' music at least was listenable on its own merits, event through the filter of the time.
I've often wondered, if her talent would have taken her farther than the usual one or two album post-supergroup cycle, had she not have a date with that ham sandwich.

Better a ham sandwich than pissing your life away on drugs.
I think in retrospect, the Ham sandwich, sounds better.
