Speaking of Steely Dan, did y'all know that the late, great Phil Hartman was a world-class graphic artist and that he did the cover for Aja--which I understand is considered by the pros to be the gold standard for album cover art?
Oh, and yeah, the first one to answer this question correctly gets an all expense-paid weekend with Michael Phelps at the Betty Ford Clinic: whence comes the name "Steely Dan"?
No peeking at Wiki for the answer to the question above.
Thanks, Dodd. It fits with this morning's GDP news, too.
Sam, years ago I was told it isn't polite to enter a contest like this if you already know the answer, so I'll pass.
Sorry, I meant the employment numbers. The GDP numbers are sooo last week.
Steely Dan ame from a certain device in a William Burroughs story. Not sure where you got the idea the Aja cover is one for the ages. It is nice work, but hardly epic. (the album itself certainly is). The Aja cover is a nice example of understated good taste, but Abbey Road & Sticky Fingers are easily more significant cover art.
Bonus question. what are the hidden meanings in "Rikki Don't Lose That Number"?
