OTB Latenight – The Eagles

A long, long time ago, I guy I met in Europe made a very compelling case that this song is (also) about Jesus. Regrettably, I’ve long since forgotten the specifics of his argument. Opinions?

About the Author: Dodd, who used to run a blog named ipse dixit, is an attorney, a veteran of the United States Navy, and a fairly good poker player. He can kill a mime using only his thumb.

He joined the staff at OTB in May 2007.

Jesus!? Naw, can't see it. I'm curious what he thinks "Puff the Magic Dragon" is about. Global warming maybe?

Why would Jesus need to be convinced to "come to his senses?"

Or to be told to avoid the "Queen of Diamonds".

And Jesus "only wants" the fine things that he can't get?

A man with 12 devoted followers needs to "let somebody love" you? Unless we're only talking about erotic love. And even then...

Sorry. I can't imagine an argument that would compel me to believe this song was about Jesus. Unless the missing parts of HIS life were him being a renegade goat herder who was afraid of intimacy.
