Pigs on the Police Force
Here is a public service announcement to all police departments, when you find guys like this in your ranks it is probably a better idea to kick them from your ranks and throw the book at them, legally speaking. Protecting them just gets their stink on you.
FAIRMONT — A Marion County sheriff’s deputy accused of sending sexual text messages to a 17-year-old girl, was back in court Thursday.
Cpl. Joseph McKinney pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent exposure.
He was sentenced to 12 months in the regional jail for each count, to be served consecutively.
Judge David Janes then suspended the sentence and placed McKinney on supervised probation for four years.
He was also required to resign from the sheriff’s department.
McKinney worked for the department for 11 years.
And just to be clear, if it was another 17 year old or a non-LEO adult sexting with this girl, he’d likely be charge with child pornography and/or indecent exposure, and wind up looking at jail time and time on the sex offender registry. There really are two Americas when it comes to the law. One for us peasants and one for the Law Enforcement Officers.
Steve, the age of consent in West Virginaia is 16.
I would go further and argue it has become a two class society with the government class holding itself out as above the rest of us. Laws, rules, regulations? Those are for other people. It’s very common that when teachers are accused of such behavior they are simply passed on to a different school with no blemishes on their record. It works that way for most other public employees.
I say anyone in a position of power or trust that violates that trust deserves twice the punishment of us commoners. The new royalty needs to be brought down to earth.

Yeah that is for sex, no? What about indecent exposure and child pornography?
For child pornography this says any person 18. Hence my comment about a 17 year old boy sexting images of himself to the girl would likely be hit with a child porn charge.
I’m also sure that for a non-LEO a good prosecutor would be quite creative in coming up with ways to charge the person with third degree sexual abuse, or sexual abuse by parent, guardian, or other person in a position of trust.

I could be wrong. West Virginia apparently has a group of offenses for the distribution and display of obscene materials to a minor. Scroll Down Here And the definition of minor for those laws is an “unemancipated person under eighteen years of age.” Link
I personally find it odd that a minor is going to be deemed to be an adult capable of consenting to sex at age 16, but is under some special incapacity relating to receiving creepy text messages until the age of 18.
Citation needed, please. I think that Steve is pushing it for cops here. I’m as disgusted as the next guy by cops basically getting away with crimes like this, but how many cops don’t? I don’t know, because we don’t really hear those stories as much.
No Steve, it is a 3 class society: Cops (DA’s and other gov’t employees of sufficient standing), those who have enuf money to buy the lawyers to get themselves out of whatever trouble they get into, and the rest of of us.
Steve, I have several friends who are public school teachers. I recently asked one who just got hired by a district, “How many of these teenage girls have crushes on you?” It was an innocent question, asked in an innocent way of an innocent guy… He said nothing… indeed, he refused to say anything.
Why? For illustration I relate another conversation I had with a another friend who is a Public School teacher about a conversation she had with a fellow teacher: He came to her not knowing what to do about a female student who repeatedly came to him with her tits hanging out all over, and her ass barely contained within her jeans…
But he could say nothing to anyone but his closest friends. Why? Because complaining to the administration about her overtly sexual behaviour would mean he had actually noticed.
And this is a big time “No No” in todays world. “Noticing” is the same thing as “wanting”… And we can’t have that. So my female friend reported this female student.
Good thing Tina isn’t gay.
Maybe I’ve been reading too much of The Agitator lately, because not only am I not surprised that he didn’t get jail time, I’m actually shocked they indicted him at all.
Alex, there is a reason we do not here of these stories so much. Most are not reported.
True story: A buddy of mine ran into an accident in midtown St Louis… litterally. Mashed his vehicle all to hell against a vehicle that was already all but gone. Meanwhile he was so drunk he could hardly walk. The cops on the scene pulled him from his vehicle and my buddy says: “Hey, my brother is a 3rd District cop… Can’t you let me go?”
They could, and they did. True story, no cites because no reports. You don’t have to believe me (and I would not blame you if you didn’t) but it is true none the less.
This shit happens more than we can know.

There was a coach in my elementary school that was known for touching girls inappropriately and being overly familiar with the girls in general. When he finally became too big of a problem for the school to ignore, they let him go for some bogus reason. He got a job across-state at another elementary school.
If the school admits what happened, they are liable for lawsuits. So often they find other reasons to get rid of the teacher and it never goes into his (or her) file.
