Rosemary Esmay links word that Kelsey Grammar is considering running for “senator of whatever state I was living in” after the end of his long-running Frasier program this year and that Dennis Miller is being recruited to challenge Barbara Boxer for the Senate.
Well, if Sonny Bono, Fred “Gopher” Grandy, and Ben “Cooter” Jones can serve in the House, surely these guys are qualified for the Senate. Indeed, Grandy and Jones did a pretty creditable job by most accounts.

I can't believe you didn't mention Fred Thompson. And you call yourself a political blogger. ;-)
Good point! Of course, I didn't know Thompson by name until he was in the Senate, even though I vaguely recognized his face from all those "characer" parts. But Gopher and Cooter were TV legends!
Not to nitpick too much, but isn't it Grandy?
And you can't forget the kind of all actor-politicians, Reagan.

And true on Reagan. The acting fame carried him to the governorship of California in the 1960s. I don't think it was much of a factor by the time he successfully ran for president in 1980.
Don't you think grammer's cocaine abuse will prevent his aspirations?

Remember, Grammar is not your Grandma.
I suspect it depends on which state he settles in.
At this point I don't think former drug abuse will be much of a factor - there are too many people (read: voters) out there who've used themselves. The fact that he's been clean for so many years is in his favor, I think.
Gentlemen, his last name is Grammer with an "er" and a capital "G".
