I'm not a member of any church but I am a great admirer of John Paul II. His strength of character and his belief in life (be it his opposition to capital punishment, abortion, etc) was worthy of admiration, even if you disagreed with some of his policies. We will miss him.

rossi, you might not have cared for his policies on gays, but as http://donsingleton.blogspot.com/2005/03/clerics-agree.html indicated none of the main three monotheistic faiths agree with homosexuality. However as a Jew you should have appreciated his visit to the Wailing Wall and while there apologizing for the way some Christians had treated Jews in the past.

http://donsingleton.blogspot.com/2005/04/pope-is-dead_01.html is my post on the Pope's death

I'm not Catholic
Im Jewish (as all get out some say ha)
so I don't fully understand having one person as a supreme spiritual leader
and I have not enjoyed this particular popes
views on the gay community.. at all..
but one thing I can say for him
he was not a hypocrit..and I do feel sad today for all the people who do feel he was their spiritual leader..
i will not pretend to understand how it feels to be a religious Catholic today...
but I imagine it must feel quite sad
