Red America, Washington Post’s New Conservative Blog

Via email from Rep. Jack Kingston’s office, I see that “the Washington Post has snagged RedState.com co-founder Ben Domenech to head its new conservative blog: Red America.”
Whether, as Kingston’s spokesman suggests, “This is another strong sign of the New Media Revolution taking hold” or just a realization that giving conservatives a reason to read their blogs other than fodder for criticism is smart business it strikes me as a good idea. It is, however, odd that the Post would let word of this get out and even have a page set up and yet not have any actual posts on the site.
For the Post’s sake, I hope they play this smart and allow Domenech the freedom to run the page as a real blog rather than a succession of pseduo columns that pass through an editorial board. Otherwise, even with the considerable backing of a major newspaper, it will have a difficult time gaining attention in an already crowded field. After all, it’s not as if there aren’t plenty of good conservative blogs already.
