Retro Comedy: The 15 Creepiest Vintage Ads Of All Time

Retro Comedy offers a collection of “The 15 Creepiest Vintage Ads Of All Time.”  I’m not sure if this one is creepy but it is rather bizarre:

I’m not even sure how this poor woman was supposed to “store test” the coffee.  Even nowadays, when one can easily buy loose, whole bean coffee — rather than coffee pre-ground and put into sealed cans — I’m not sure how to test for freshness.

It appears the directions are on the bottom of the add but I can't get it to blow up big enough to read it. I'm sure it was a gimmick for a new can or packaging method that would let you take a whiff. Apparently the poor gal forgot to whiff.

Hey mon, call it what you wish, looks like the start of something that will not involve coffee drinking!

The “creepy” ads are more in the eye of the beholder. The creators like innocent children probably didn’t think of it in the way others would. I see double implications in many of today’s ads although some of today’s ads are probably intentional. The ads shown in above link were funny.

FYI Coffee started off as non pre-ground and when pre-ground coffee in a can came around it was considered for the elite coffee drinkers. Now it has turn around where the “elites” drinkers ground their own coffee. Although I would agree freshly ground coffee taste better but part of that is the wider choice of beans.
