Sandra Bullock Donates $1 Million to Tsunami Relief

Sandra Bullock chips in $1M for tsunami relief (Austin Business Journal)

On-again, off-again Austin resident Sandra Bullock has donated $1 million to the American Red Cross for tsunami disaster relief in southern Asian and eastern Africa. “At this critical time, I am grateful to Sandra Bullock for, once again, demonstrating her leadership, compassion and belief in our global humanitarian mission,” says Marsha Evans, president and CEO of the American Red Cross. “Sandra continues to enable our lifesaving work and is a model for personal generosity.”

In 2001, the actress donated $1 million to the Red Cross in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

via Michelle Malkin, who pronounces Bullock “not stingy.” Kudos, indeed.

This is amazing, because she's sort of a second-tier star. Though she makes a lot more money than most of us, she isn't raking in the long green, and this move is particularly risky for a female just approaching the age when the roles often start to dry up.

I hope she's investing the rest of her money very carefully, and that this wasn't a reckless move.

I hadn't heard this; thanks for posting it. I agree that this probably isn't pocket change for her, and I admire her good heart.

She can afford it, Attila Girl. Forbes.com shows her making $30 million this past year, $17.5 of it from Miss Congeniality II. She owns Fortis Films, a production company that has a contract with Warner Brothers through 2006. It's nice to see a "Hollywood Talent" reacting to the real world's problems in a substantial way. Her dad and mom did a good job raising her, I'd say.

It shows you can do a lot of good with little acting talent.

Well, that's what I get for making assumptions! Not only is she a good-looking lady and a moderately good actress, she's obviously got an excellent head for business. And a good heart!
