The Senate yesterday approved Janice Rogers Brown’s appointment to the DC Circuit and are expected to confirm Bill Pryor to the 11th Circuit today.

The Senate is quickly clearing its slate of President Bush’s blocked judicial nominees, preparing to move on to less divisive court candidates and pending legislation. Senators on Thursday were expected to confirm former Alabama Attorney General William Pryor’s nomination to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, one day after putting the final stamp on California judge Janice Rogers Brown’s candidacy to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia circuit.

By ending the filibusters of Pryor and the now-confirmed U.S. Appeals Court judge Priscilla Owen and Brown, the Senate has taken care of the first part of an agreement reached last month by Senate centrists that averted a showdown that could have brought Senate action to a halt. They are now free to consider other nominees, like Michigan nominees David McKeague and Richard Griffin, nominated to the 6th Circuit in Cincinnati, and North Carolina judge Terrence Boyle, nominated to the 4th Circuit in Richmond, Va.

Finally.
