How on earth can you say this guy's heart is in the right place? This is just another vanity project. His whole sub-culture is about nothing but self glorification. If he tries to mess with Chino, where Pop Warner reigns supreme, he'll have to go through some dads not easily impressed with his baubles.

OTB: Snoop's Heart in the Right Place

On Friday, I posted that Snoop Dogg was killing youth football. Turns out it was worse than I thought, but one could never tell by reading Outside the Beltway's analysis:

The LA Times story is a much more stinging indictment than the one ...

Rowland Heights is not in OC. It's in LA County. You have to go over the hills to the south on the 57 to get to OC. And I'm sure Chinese are pretty close to majority there, just take a drive down Colima and look at all the Chinese stores and restaurants.

When I look at the names of the localities mentioned here, I think it's important to note that we're not just dealing with underpriveleged kids, and not just black kids. Long Beach and Compton, yes, although the black majorities in Compton and neighboring Inglewood are shrinking as the Latino population rises, and Long Beach on the whole is not a poor community. Orange County is *most assuredly* not underpriveleged. And Rowland Heights has a huge Chinese immigrant population; I wouldn't be surprised is Asians are now a majority. I'll bet dollars to donuts that if Snoop lives there, his family stands out in their neighborhood. So there is probably much more to this story than race and setting an example for poor black kids.

Isn't this the same guy that is involved in the tv sex videos? If so, what happened to the "keep God in everything we do" bit?

Your mention of the NCAA slant made me think--the idea there is that once they get something of value to play, they're no longer amateurs but professionals.

Will this come back to bite the kids if they do go out for college ball? That they, in a sense, received "payment" for thier skills in youth ball?

Just askin'

DC, the flip side of your comment is that it's okay for Snoop because other people do it.

For all you know, TB may think those boosters are lowlife reptiles too. I certainly do.

I wish you'd all take similar umbrage at the activities of NCAA athletics boosters. Honestly, calling him a "dirty lowlife reptile?" Bet that made you feel better.

More likely it will reinforce the message that the only way for a poor black kid to get ahead is to become a rapper.

In the youth football league I coach in everyone has to submit a CORI form. I wonder if Snoop had to?
