We’re back from vacation and normal blogging should commence shortly. In addition to barely blogging over the past week, I’ve paid only scant attention to the news.
Did I miss anything?

The Tamil Tigers may actually have been defeated. Their leader was confirmed KIA, and they've decided to disarm. The Tamil Diaspora (and there's a really good article on this on the NYT Lede Blog), of course, refuses to give up, and are making lots of outraged noises.
Other than that, not much. There's the Netanyahu-Obama smilefest which really changed nothing, and so forth.
Somewhere in the comments section, Triumph announced that he/she loves you and misses you terribly. Who know what that means.

The dems have gotten a free pass on all their promises and principles.
I think there was another cycle of "death of the GOP" articles this past week.

Pelosi was briefed on waterboarding in 2002 but she wasn't, it was her top aide but he said she was, then she dug a deep hole and jumped in with her spin machine...then she emphatically repeated she wasn't briefed but said Jane Harman wrote a letter stating she didn't think the EIT's were within the law so Nancy said that would suffice for her dissent for the thingy she wasn't breifed on. Then Nancy clawed her way out of the hole by calling the CIA a bunch of liars which made Mr Panetta say they weren't which made Nancy clarify that she was misquoted/misunderstood on the video and she loves the work of the CIA people and therefore Bush/Cheney were the ones that must have lied to her.
Oh, and apparently Scarlett Johansson and Gweneth Paltrow got in a catfight.

You missed nothing. All we had were a bunch of liberal apologetics from the Knapster, some insanely boring posts about obscure Asian countries by Shue, and Verdon's usual petulant dinosaur-meets-Ayn-Rand "free market" hagiography.
So, like, you need to get some content up here ASAP.

2. You haven't read that book have you? I haven't, but based on the descriptions on Amazon it highlights how people (i.e. not just economists) fail to understand probability and evaluate risk accurately. It is indeed probably at the very root of our current problems, but it isn't like economists are ignoring this (the Ellsburg Paradox, the Allais Paradox, the work of guys the Kahneman, etc.)
the guy hasn't read the book i recommended, but somehow has it figured that i haven't either!
i mean i could have stepped right in with my 2006 comments upon reading it, but that just seemed weak.
better (i thought) just to go off on the guy.
