Somebody Missed Nap Time

As President Obama pauses while speaking to credit card company executives there comes a noise from the end of the conference table…snoring. Economic dvisor Lawrence Summers has fallen asleep and it has been captured on camera.

[I don't know if he was snoring, but it sure would have been funny if he did.]

About the Author: Steve has a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles and attended graduate school at The George Washington University, leaving school shortly before staring work on his dissertation when his first child was born. He works in the energy industry and prior to that worked at the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the Division of Price Index and Number Research.

Interesting, the post itself isn't missing the italics close tag but when placed in the context of the entire blog it is.

Democrats at work! I guess being asleep instead of awake is, indeed, "change".

He probably fell asleep waiting for Obama to finish a sentence. Have you ever heard the guy when he doesn't have his teleprompter? You just want to scratch your own eyes out ... "for the love of God, quit saying, 'uh' and finish your damn thought!" It's like Groundhog Day except you are trapped in week 2 of 1st Semester Public Speaking.

I knew a guy at Intel who slept in meetings all the time and without any apparent sense of shame.

Still envy that guy.

This annoys me to no end when I listen to him speaking off the cuff. It's not even the habitual "uh" that Bush was prone to, but a kind of creeping, guttural "uuuuuUUUH" that seem to precede the next thought in the sentence. He'd be better of leaving an awkward pause before each response so that he can formulate what he wants to say before saying it. I'm beginning to think Obama has some form of speech apraxia.

This meme always amuses me. So you like it better when people talk without thinking? There's plenty of politicians that do that; it's nice to have some variety.

Personally I've seen plenty of Obama off the teleprompter where he gave brilliant answers. They were indeed slowly delivered, and I could forgive you for falling asleep, but he considered the question from multiple angles rather than rattling off some partially-related talking point.

If we must use campaign slogans as arguments, then yes, this is change I can believe in.
