The Traffic Jam (and the results of the last caption contest) will be out this evening. I’ve got another project I’m working on that will distract me for a couple hours at least.

The HostingMatters blogs, including mine, were intermittently unavailable for much of the morning owing to an announced move of their equipment into a new cage. I had misread their message– thinking that the move was to occur at 10 p.m. rather than 10 a.m.–since it never occured to me they’d intentionally shut down during the day. In any event, the downtime was supposed to be less than 20 minutes.

We were down for about... 20 minutes. And they did announce it every which way they could.
Interesting. Mine was down for quite a while--as was InstaPundit and PoliBlog, the ones I usually check to see if it's a systemwide issue. And, yes, I got the announcements but just somehow read them as happening at 10 pm rather than 10 am.
While a planned shutdown during a time when most people are likely to be awake is mildly annoying, I was just posting an explanation for why the site was down.
I’m at the new job today and am going to be tied up with lots of administrative tasks all day. I also haven’t set up my OTB pop account on the new machine, so I won’t be responding to mail until this evening.

I’m off to do accompany the inspector through the ridiculously overpriced townhouse I’ll be buying if all goes well. Back in a few hours.

Ridiculously overpriced townhouse? You must live pretty close to the Beltway (inside or outside), then ;-0

Don't you just looooove the DC area !!!;-)
We're looking right now to buy a house/townhouse and it really upsets me because I feel I can't buy anything where I would like to.
I almost thought about Stafford or even Fredericksburg, but I really don't have the time to spend in a car or on a train all day.
Good Luck!
Ok, I've a passing familiarity with your area, as one of my best buddies lives in Warrington, VA. All I can say, from my open sky vantagepoint in Saskatchewan, is that you're all friggin insane for even considering living where you will spend a measurable portion of your waking life staring at the rear bumper of the car infront of you.
As one who spends an inordinate amount of time in my car daily (average of 2-3 hours per day), katewerk, Saskatchewan doesn't sound half bad at times. Actually, anywhere would be an improvement.
So, what keeps me in the DC area?
1. My family - I'm a native.
2. Job prospects - as a federal employee the options are better here, although I have the option to relocate as well.
3. There's a lot to do. Being such a touristy area, there really is a ton of stuff to do. Not that I do it, but it's there if I decide I want to.
The positives far outweigh the negatives for me.

I’m going to give converting to Moveable Type a go. The site might go a little wonky while I’m learning and testing.
Update: Well, maybe not. The documentation for installing MT is the worst I have ever seen. Why they don’t have a simple set-up program like EVERY OTHER SINGLE SOFTWARE PROGRAM ON THE PLANET escapes me. Further, Hosting Matters doesn’t seem to let me actually access my folders directly from the web, which appears to be a requirement for the archane, manual setup routine MT requires–which apparently involves a raw edit on a dozen or more files. Absolutely bizarre.
