U.S. Constitution: 4th Amendment
A while back, I asked for reader suggestions on posts but, alas, have published no posts in response to said suggestions. Most of the suggestions were for posts and post series requiring research. Three of my colleagues have volunteered to write something in response to suggested topics and I have underway a post on General and Flag Officers, which was ...Posted in Outside The Beltway | OTB on July 3, 2008 14:35

Brits Flying to 3rd World to Escape NIH
The British nationalized medical system is so bad that tens of thousands are flying to the Third World to get better treatment. Record numbers of Britons are travelling abroad for medical treatment to escape the NHS - with 70,000 patients expected to fly out this year. And by the end of the decade 200,000 "health tourists" will fly as far as ...Posted in Outside The Beltway | OTB on October 29, 2007 07:08
Dilemma: Privacy is More Important than Life?
Adults are adults, and sometimes need to get away from each other. Police are not supposed to be referees in personal relationships. But sometimes that is taken to extremes, as just happened near Seattle, WA, where the King County (Seattle is in King County) Sheriffs Department took 8 days to start looking for an accident victim. Once they started ...Posted in Outside The Beltway | OTB on September 29, 2007 02:09
Airpower’s Crucial Role in Irregular Warfare
Frank Hoffman draws my attention to a piece in Air & Space Power Journal by Major General Allen Peck entitled, "Airpower's Crucial Role in Irregular Warfare." Having recently written about the problems with relying on air power for COIN, I was interested in getting the alternative view from an unquestioned expert. I remain unpersuaded. He starts strong: Historically, democracies ...Posted in Outside The Beltway | OTB on August 7, 2007 10:20
Our Biotech Future
Freeman Dyson is excited about the direction of biotechnology. While far from a Luddite, I find his vision rather chilling. Will the domestication of high technology, which we have seen marching from triumph to triumph with the advent of personal computers and GPS receivers and digital cameras, soon be extended from physical technology to biotechnology? I believe that the ...Posted in Outside The Beltway | OTB on July 1, 2007 09:14

They were ...Posted in Outside The Beltway | OTB on March 23, 2007 09:24
Reservists Going to Iraq Without Rifles?
A report by David Cloud in today's NYT on the deployment of Reserve Component soldiers to Iraq sheds some light on a couple of issues that may come as a surprise to those who don't study this sort of thing for a living. Cloud notes that the Pentagon's announcement that it may send "more than 14,000 National Guard troops" ...Posted in Outside The Beltway | OTB on February 22, 2007 11:19
U.S. Submarine, Japanese Ship Collide
The USS Newport News collided with a Japanese ship earlier today. A U.S. nuclear submarine and Japanese merchant ship collided in the Arabian Sea late Monday, but there were no injuries on either vessel, the U.S. Navy and Japanese officials said. There was no damage to the fast-attack USS Newport News submarine or the ship that affected either vessel's ability to ...Posted in Outside The Beltway | OTB on January 8, 2007 22:59
