Paige Davis fired as Trading Spaces host

Paige Davis has been fired as the host of TLC’s Trading Spaces. A TLC rep tells the New York Post’s Page Six that “TLC is taking ‘Trading Spaces’ in a new creative direction, transitioning to a ‘host-less’ format this spring … Paige helped make ‘Trading Spaces’ a great success for the network, and we wish her the best of luck.” While the Post idiotically suggests that “her recent weight gain or her terrible ’50s hairdo” might be to blame, a rumor reality blurred discovered was posted online suggests that the previously discredited sex tape rumor was the real culprit. If it’s correct, there actually are three sex tapes — even though the original source of the tape information recanted “just before the TV home improvement show host’s attorneys took him to court,” The Chicago Sun-Times reported. Previously, Paige survived the TV Guide cover scandal and the fundraiser stripping scandal, but this was apparently too much, according to the information, which apparently comes from a Banyan Productions insider’s friend.

Update: TLC Statement on Trading Spacing Host Paige Davis

TLC is taking Trading Spaces in a new creative direction, transitioning to a “host-less” format this spring. As a result, Paige Davis will be leaving the cast of Trading Spaces. We believe that this new creative direction will enable the show to be more spontaneous, focus more on the homeowners and designers, and create alternative home trades in different cities and on opposite coasts.

Paige helped make Trading Spaces a great success for the network and we wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors. Paige’s last new episode will premiere in March, with repeat episodes of Trading Spaces airing throughout the year.

Davis, “Spaces” part ways (Inside Track)

Perky Paige Davis is packing her toolbelt and leaving TLC’s popular renovation show, “Trading Spaces.” The network announced the change in a statement yesterday, attributing their new Paige-less look to a dynamic change in format which allows the show to “focus more on the homeowners.”

Davis, who began hosting the popular renovation show in 2001, posted a touching au revoir on the show’s Web site. “I just wanted to take a minute to say goodbye,” the 35-year-old TV personality wrote. “I cannot begin to explain what an incredible journey this show has been for me. I love `Trading Spaces’ so much, and I am very proud of what the cast and crew has brought to you.”

Despite the hunky-dory arrangement, rumors have been swirling that Davis’ departure was prompted by recent bursts of risque behavior. Last June, the New York Post reported that the married host engaged in an impromptu strip tease at a Broadway fund-raiser and there were also dogged hints of a sex tape circulating on the Internet starring the cheerful can-do chick. And somehow we don’t think The Learning Channel would learn from Paris Hilton’s pioneering example and treat a sex video as a resume booster. . . .

Born in 1970, Mindy Paige Davis and her family moved from Philadelphia to Louisville before her teens. A young gymnast, Davis enjoyed a normal childhood and was inspired to entertain after discovering her mother’s West Side Story album. By the time the record was worn out, she had memorized all the words and could dance to all the songs.

After high school, Davis attended the Meadows School of Arts at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Following graduation, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of becoming a performer. She soon landed roles in commercials and music videos, and a dancing gig on tour with the Beach Boys.

Her first major break came in 1997 when she signed on as Babette in the national tour of Beauty and the Beast. For two and a half years she traveled with the cast, which included future husband Patrick Page, who starred as Lumière. Theater work followed on Broadway with a role in Chicago, and on regional productions of A Chorus Line, Pippin, Hello, Dolly!, and more.

There has been a steady influx the last several days of people looking for information on Trading Spaces hostess Paige Davis–especially information involving her nude, on tape, on video, and similar combinations. A look through the archives at GoogleNews may explain this.

New York Daily News gossip columnist had a story on December 22 entitled, “Video could be real Paige turner.”

Is Paige Davis, the host of The Learning Channel’s “Trading Spaces,” the victim of some hot Internet gossip? If anonymous rumors on the Internet are to be believed, the 35-year-old fix-it vixen – who presides over houseswappings in which neighbors redecorate each other’s homes on cable television – may have once starred in a steamy homemade video. Yesterday, a rep for Davis told Lowdown, “Paige is on the set. We’re looking into it, and her lawyers have been notified.”A representative for TLC (whose motto, appropriately, is “Life Unscripted”) didn’t return detailed messages.

But an anonymous reviewer on the Celebrity Nudity Database (www.cndb.com) describes a variety of activities allegedly involving Davis and “a boyfriend” – including some in-shower grooming while belting out “I Feel Pretty.” A second reviewer claims that the video is dated July 3, 1997, and estimates that Davis – or maybe her doppelbanger – was 27 at the time. “She sure looks a lot and sounds a lot like the real deal,” the reviewer says.

A third writer provides a detailed description of one intimate moment. The account concludes: “I’m sure it’s her.”

Davis lives in Manhattan with her husband, actor Patrick Page. At an AIDS research fund-raiser in July, she raised eyebrows – not to mention heart rates – when she reportedly launched into a striptease and flashed her thong at the audience.

An old home video allegedly showing “Trading Spaces” host Paige Davis getting it on with a male friend is reportedly making the rounds. A “review” posted on Celebrity Nudity Database by someone who claims to have seen the tape says the video contains footage of Davis and the mystery man taking a naughty shower together while Davis belts out “I Feel Pretty.”

Alas, these reports appear to be false. Reality Blurred reports in yesterday’s edition that reported Paige Davis sex tape is apparently not of the Trading Spaces host.

Last Thursday, Lloyd Grove announced that he’s giving up Paris Hilton. But if his Internet-found items hold up as well as his report on an alleged Paige Davis sex tape, he’ll have to return to Paris on about January 6. Lloyd pointed to reviews on the Celebrity Nudity Database that suggested the Trading Spaces host starred in her own sex tape. But the day after Lloyd’s item ran, someone contradicted the reports, writing, “We have been able to confirm through various sources that the woman in the sex tape we have is NOT, repeat NOT Paige Davis of TLC’s Trading Spaces. She looks and sounds almost exactly like Ms. Davis, but is certainly not her. I want to apologize for any misleading information that came out of this. We were trying our best to keep this quiet, but some within the company just had to get this info on the internet. Again, sorry.”

There are several CNdb reviews of the tape; one says, “The Trading Spaces hostess is on tape having rough sex with a boyfriend several years ago. She sucks, gets spanked, and is eaten out in this tape, according to the distributors.” Although the sex tape may not be real, the pictures of her quasi-stripping at a charity event over the summer certainly are.

This is perhaps more information than necessary.

Meanwhile, Zap2It reports that a Trading Spaces marathon was shown for Christmas:

“Overhaulin’” and “Trading Spaces” Marathons, The Learning Channel: Friday, catch nine hours of the makeover show for motor vehicles. Saturday, Paige Davis hosts 15 hours of the hit renovation reality series, including the two-hour “100 Grand” episode, a behind-the-scenes special, a “best of 2004″ installment, and an hour of bloopers and outtakes.

For those looking for information on this rather than the sex tape, I apologize for the delay in investigating this matter.

AFTER we reported how “Trading Spaces” star Paige Davis got down and dirty at the Broadway Bares event at Roseland Ballroom last weekend, Davis tried to downplay her impromptu striptease. In a memo she posted on the Internet, Davis said: “I did collect some money in a pretend-stripper fashion from a crowd that was 99 percent gay men! No one ‘mauled my breasts!’ I kept all of my clothes on at all times. If any . . . fans are shocked or offended by the Post’s coverage, I would have them consider the source — the Post is known for rumor and exaggeration.” Well exaggerate this, Paige: you were caught on camera. Photos of her mid-strip are in this week’s Star magazine, showing Davis in a sheer thong, legs open, with men’s hands mauling her breasts. Who’s lying, Paige?

Frankly, I’d rather watch her pretend-strip than watch people’s idiot neighbors paste corrogated cardboard on the walls, paint the couch purple, and take down the ceiling fan. Hell, it’s not even close.

PAIGE Davis, star of The Learning Channel’s “Trading Spaces,” could easily trade places with a stripper. At the Broadway Bares/Equity Fights Aids gala at Roseland Sunday night, Davis — who is starring in “Chicago” June 22-Aug. 8 — “pulled up her sundress to her hips, showing off her tiny thong, and started to strip,” a witness says. “She did a go-go dance and then, all sweaty, let men maul her breasts and shove dollar bills into the front of her tiny G-string . . . I think she has a morals clause in her TLC contract and this has got to violate it.” Davis’ representative, Carrie Byalick, said: “Paige participated in the Broadway Bares show to respect and thank the sponsors [M.A.C. cosmetics, Absolut Vodka and Continental Airlines]. Along with other Broadway actors, including Jai Rodriguez and the ‘Avenue Q’ cast, Paige did give up a little moon to raise money. It was all choreographed and planned and they raised over half a million dollars.”

Reality TV World -‘Trading Spaces’ host Paige Davis strips for charity, then complains about press

The New York Post reports that Paige, who is currently starring in the Broadway revival of Chicago, showed a little more than her dancing moves during the “Broadway Bares” AIDS fundraising benefit (sponsored by the actors’ group Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS) on June 20 (which raised over a half-million dollars for HIV/AIDS support).

At the end of the benefit, Paige performed a simulated-striptease routine while wearing a V-necked sundress, which she pulled up to reveal a skimpy sheer thong underneath (shades of Monica Lewinsky) In one partygoer’s view, “men maul[ed] her breasts” while stuffing money in both the top and bottom parts of her clothing .

Considering that Paige’s job on Trading Spaces was supposedly “on the line” over a TV Guide cover in which she was clothed only in wallpaper — and that TV Guide ultimately agreed to limit distribution of the cover so that TLC didn’t use a “no-nudity” clause in her contract to terminate her — many onlookers were surprised that Paige was so openly showing her God-given assets. However, Paige chose to ramp up the controversy by responding to The Post’s story on the TLC message boards.

In her response, Paige noted that Broadway Cares was her longstanding favorite charity and that she “raised $20,000 for [it] last year in an embarrassing night of Celebrity Jeopardy.” She then discussed the benefit, where she claimed to be “dressed in a very modest, almost demure, yellow dress, cut to my sternum.” While she admitted to “flip[ping] my skirt for a second” and “collect[ing] some money in a pretend-stripper fashion,” she said that she “kept all of my clothes on at all times” and accused The Post of “rumor and exaggeration” in its description of the night.

Unfortunately for Paige, this week’s Star Magazine includes three full-color photos of her “pretend-strip,” including one during Paige’s “flipped skirt” antics that was censored, presumably to keep this issue of Star from ending up hidden under the counter with Playboy. While Paige’s claim that she “kept all of my clothes on” clearly seems to be true, that doesn’t mean that the clothes were performing their normal function of body coverage — and the words “modest” and “demure” did not come to our mind while viewing men sticking their hands down the front of her dress and an image of numerous dollar bills tucked into her G-string.

In response to the pictures in Star, the New York Post fired back at Paige, asking her to “exaggerate this” and to answer the question of “who’s lying.” One hint: it isn’t the photos.

Frankly, we don’t care how or where Paige dresses or undresses, and we agree that her actions were on behalf of a good cause. But we admit to being fascinated by the legalities involved.

Because Paige kept her clothes on, does that mean that she didn’t violate her TLC “no-nudity” clause — even though the photos are much more revealing than the TV Guide “wallpaper shoot,” which may have violated it? Does a photo in which Paige wasn’t showing anything count as nudity because she was covered in non-clothes (wallpaper), but a photo in which she shows much, much more not count as nudity because she was wearing clothes that she didn’t remove? Or have she and TLC simply moved beyond the “no nudity” clause?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Apparently Paige Davis, the host of TLC’s Trading Spaces, likes to push the edges of the envelope in her public life. Mike Lafavore, editor-in-chief of TV Guide, told the Sun-Times that the alternate cover, which features Davis wearing nothing but wallpaper, “kind of freaked out” TLC executives, however “it is not my job to censor our covers.” “This is an issue between Paige and the Learning Channel” adds Lafavore, “I really never understood what the big deal was. I saw the shots and they didn’t shock me too much.” Lafavore says the magazine did initially opt to go with the racier cover, but changed their decision after other TV Guide editors questioned whether Davis fans would recognize the normally reserved Davis posing in such a different look. “She is very sexy in these shots. She is a bit out of context. We weren’t sure which way to go. I liked the sexier shot, but we decided to try both,” says Lafavore.

As far as the idea that the cover might violate the “no nudity” clause in Davis’ contract, Lafavore isn’t buying it. “I didn’t know but I’m told that Davis has a no-nudity clause in her contract. I laughed. She is showing more skin then she does in ‘Trading Spaces,’ but she’s not nude,” says Lafavore. “I’m really surprised by the controversy. It was clear she [Davis] was having a great time at the shoot and the pictures reflect that. But, I guess the Learning Channel is very conservative. You would have to be very conservative to think these photos violate a no-nudity clause.”
