The Dead Pool 2005

Laurence Simon’s annual celebration of the preciousness of life, the Dead Pool, is underway for 2005.

My educated guesses, in some cases longshots (extra points for young people) are below:

1. Liza Minnelli, fat singer-actress (12 March 1946)
2. Dick Clark, America’s oldest teenager (November 30, 1929)
3. Gerald Ford, never elected president or vice president (July 14, 1913)
4. Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath frontman (December 3, 1948)
5. Robert Downey Jr., famous drug addict (4 April 1965)
6. James Brown, hardest working man in show business (May 3, 1933)
7. Robert Blake, Little Rascals, Berreta, possible murderer (18 Sep 1933)
8. Sam Taylor-Wood, British artist (1967, can’t find date)
9. Elizabeth Taylor, perfume saleswoman, used to be hot (February 27, 1932)
10. Charlie Watts, Rolling Stone, (July 2, 1941)
11. Courtney Love, used to be married to dead guy (February 20, 1967)
12. William Rehnquist, Chief Justice of the United States (October 1, 1924)
13. John Paul Stevens, Associate Justice (April 20, 1920)
14. Chuck Tanner, former baseball manager (July 4, 1929)
15. Karol Joseph Wojtyla, aka Pope John Paul II (May 18,1920)

I hope to attain a score of zero–although I wouldn’t mind seeing John Paul Stevens live a long life in retirement.

Always a lot of people picking Courtney Love for some reason. She certainly does more than her share of drugs, but I don't see her going over the deep end.

I think she lives her life in the deep end.

But the human body does take a lot of killing, which is why picking any young person for the Dead Pool is a longshot. (And why it pays more points if you have any success.)

When it comes to drugs, try to get someone who mixes vodka and phenobarbital.

Liz Taylor was never hot. Pretty, yes, but never hot. Now, Eva Marie Saint on the other hand...

Is it too late to pick Yasser Arafat (24 August 1929 -famous Nobel Peace de-activast)?? I know they buried him but the French haven't declared him dead yet...they plan on doing so after they finish the Princess Di investigation.
Dick Clark (30 November 1929 - eternal teen-ager) will not be rocking in the new year in next year.
Ramsey Clark (1927 - Atorney General under Lyndon Johnson and atorney for saddam hussein).
