Actually, Canada has more doctors per capita than the U.S. with that number skewed towards general practitioners rather than specialists. More importantly, Canada spends less than half the amount per person on health care that we do in our country. Finally, Canada is socialized insurance rather than socialized medicine (the UK's national health service could probably be tagged more in that realm). As our own health care system implodes, I think we'll have to do a little better than rely upon ideological rants. Facts gentlemen, please.

[...] The New York Times actually has a pretty good article on the failures of the public health system and the recent upsurge in private clinics. Here are a couple of my favorite lines (hat tip: Outside the Beltway): “This is a country in which dogs can get a hip replacement in under a week and in which humans can wait two to three years.” [...]

[...] Steve Verdon has a blog entry commentating on the Canadian health care system. He argues that the system is on the verge of total collapse. The country’s publicly financed health insurance system — frequently described as the third rail of its political system and a core value of its national identity — is gradually breaking down.

I'd say things are about to change in Canada. Whether the change is for the better or not will depend largely depend on the politicians.

The place is on the verge of civil war. We should invade now and secure all the natural gas in Alberta before they squander it on their stupid health care system.

The Canadian system of healthcare is crumbling. This is by no means surprising to me. Canadians pay around US$500 per person in taxes to pay for the healthcare system. In contrast, I pay around that much for full insurance coverage for the entire famil...

Anywhere in the world socialized health care has been tried, it is in the process or has already failed.
Americans have an opportunity here to avoid this wretched scheme run by an organization(US Government) that has difficulty getting a letter across town in a week.
Let's not fall for the old slight of hand by instituting socialized health care under a different name such as National Health care, or say, Hillarycare. Simply because 535 fools in Washington devise a plan to pander for votes will not make it an acceptable alternative to the present system. The present system does have its flaws, I rather think those problems should be worked out in a free market, not by individuals who care more about their political tenure than my gall bladder.
Hey, I love lobster, you sure we really can't make a socialized lobster plan work?
