(Sorry, just feeling snarky today.)

Gee, he sounds dashing and handsome from that description... sure, he may have hand-picked underage schoolgirls for Uday's rape parties, but on the other hand he's got such a charming smile!

I emailed the editor at time.com and suggested they follow it up with a parallel essay featuring Joseph Mengele and Albert Einstein.

That's really weird. When I go to page 2 of the story, then go back to page 1, the picture and caption are different. SSgt. Bear is gone, only Ahmed is left. And the caption is "Portrait of "Ahmed," a resistance fighter based in Fallujah, Iraq." Weird. (I'm using Mozilla Firebird 0.6, BTW.)

I would prefer to see the historical comparison of Mahatma Ghandi to Adolf Hitler, both world leaders in their time, so what's the difference.

See no evil
James Joyner notes that Time magazine, in a grotesque example of moral equivalence, has offered side-by-side comparisons of an American soldier and one of Saddam's feyadeen. Jesus. If you wondered where Howard Dean was coming from when he called Hamas...

Just because two men fight, doesn't mean that they are morally the same, as James of OTB and Matthew J. Stinson correctly note. The desire of some to see all combatants as the same is remarkable and causes more problems...
