Thompson Abortion Lobbying Story Has Holes
Jim Geraghty has done some digging into the Fred Thompson lobbied for an abortion group story. Suddenly, it’s more plausible that the accusers are indeed “making it up out of whole cloth.”
The LAT’s quiet rewrite of the story, changing details that would bring his accusers’ story into question, should set off alarms. Unfortunately, newspaper Web sites do that on a routine basis for less-than-sinister reasons, so it doesn’t prove anything.
I would note, however, that, at the time of the incident in question, Thompson had appeared in a minor role in a movie called “White Sands.” While not technically a Western, it’s certainly reasonable for it to have been construed as such from casual conversation. I haven’t seen it, so I have no clue whether Thompson’s character was shot in it.
