I third the notion that a Friday led long weekend is better than a Monday end long weekend. The holiday I want more often is the random Wednesday off as that makes the week a very nice split without the concurrent work pressure to get everything done before you leave for the holiday.

It may well be an iron law of blogging that almost any post, however innocuous, can degenerate into a surprisingly bitter discussion (although I suppose we should drop "surprisingly" from the description).
