Tracking OTB’s Popularity: A Case Study
While press accounts make it clear that Wonkette is the gold standard for weblogs, there is no real consensus on how to measure blog popularity. There’s Technorati links, the TTLB Ecosystem, and good old traffic. For the capitalists among you, there are BlogAds sales. But perhaps the most time-honored test is “What does John Hawkins like?”
I started OTB at the end of January 2003 and by year’s end was John’s 37th favorite blog. Not bad!
1st Quarter, 2004: Shut out. I’m guessing I was #41.
2nd Quarter, 2004: #18. Excellent recovery!
3rd Quarter, 2004: #28. Ooof! Down ten slots!
As of today, I’m #22. Well, I’m headed back in the right direction, at least.
Obviously, OTB isn’t the blog it was back in May. But I’m tryin’. I’m tryin’ real hard to be a shepherd.

LOL.
I don't think I've ever made that list. I've made his "e-mail them for a link" list (which I never signed up for) and his "right-of-center-bloggers" list (which I also never signed up for an don't even fit — I'm both right and left of center, depending...).
I won't call him a spammer, he's far too polite about it for that and I can't exactly condemn enthusiastic capitalism, can I, being one of "those" myself?
I just wish his enthusiasm would limit itself to once every six months or so. Or that I'd make his silly list... :)
Not bitter at all about it, but I've never made that list or any of his others apparently and honestly the only time I read RWN is the rare occasion, like this one, when someone else links to it.
I guess I'll have to just keep cashing the Amazon and Blogads checks and watch my TTLB status stabilize in the top 100 after just over a year of blogging.
Bein' a shepherd is hard work.
