If the purpose were not to become a citizen and subject of the Queen, but rather to work to overthrow the Queen, fraud could be demonstrated. This clearly doesn't work for those born in the UK, but that apparently isn't being addressed in the new legislation. False information on a CV will get you fired, get a university degree withdrawn. False information on a visa application--even in the US--will get you deported. Also even in the US, false information on immigration applications <i>will</i> get your citizenship pulled. Look at the cases of immigrants of Eastern European provenance who have been stripped of their citizenship due to their activities (or alleged activites) as Nazi prison guards. It's certainly harsh, but it's not some sudden hellfire raining down on innocents. A case could be made that false information about the intent to immigrate was made at the time of application.
