WaPo has a rather odd piece on the Dixie Chicks. The subheadline, “At Tour’s End, After the Brouhaha and Boycott, Dixie Chicks and Fans Still Aren’t Singing the Blues” seems not to comport with the story itself–which has the Chicks indeed still suffering because of their politics–and the fact that Natalie Maines felt compelled to issue a public apology for saying she was ashamed to be from the same state as President Bush.
The reporter has profiles one Dixie Chicks fan, a Jessica Hallman from Blue Ridge, Ga., who apparently doesn’t follow the news all that closely:
“President Bush, he just made an apology, something about nuclear weapons that weren’t really there,” Hallman says. “That was a lot worse than what Natalie done.<...>
In small-town Georgia, Jessica Hallman flexed the only political muscle she had when her local country radio station stopped playing the Chicks: the volume knob on her car stereo.
“I was going through the parking lot at work playing “Travelin’ Soldier” and people were just giving me the thumbs down and I was shooting birds back at them,” Hallman says.
Very classy.

I dunno. I thought the Dixie Chicks' heads were filled with "bricks 'n mortar." Nonetheless, the more controversial comments they make, the more we get to see them naked.
Yup. They're suffering all the way to the bank. Despite conservative efforts to silence them.
Some say money can't buy you happiness but it certainly can buy you a big enough yacht to sail up right next to it.

I don't think they should be silenced, by any means. But the article really doesn't provide much evidence that they've recovered. Their post-statement sales have tanked. Their concert tour was sold out ahead of time.
The fact remains their album is outselling every other C&W album. As for their tour being pre-sold-out, I'd suggest you'd not find too many empty seats.
Let's face it, the attempt to silence this band isn't coming from fans; instead, it's media outlets like Fox and ClearChannel.
Well, Guy, BY DEFINITION the clamor to shut up is not coming from fans. That's a tautology. You might want to ask if the clamor to shut up is coming from EX-fans.
That's why I like popular music so much; those damn Debussy fans flipping other citizens the bird. You'd never see that behavior in a Dixie Chicks fan. Certainly not a teenager without a brain cell in her head in Georgia.
I am shocked, shocked to find....
