Vatican: Pope’s Condition Stabilizes
Pope’s condition apparently stable: Vatican radio (AFP)
VATICAN CITY (AFP) – Pope John Paul II seems to be reacting well to antibiotic treatment and his condition “appears to have been stabilized,” the Vatican’s official radio said.
“The pontiff seems to be reacting well to the antibiotics that he has been administered, and, at the very end of the evening, his condition appears to have stabilized,” Vatican radio said in a report posted on its website.
Italian news reports said the 84-year-old pontiff had been given the last rites as his health rapidly deteriorated late Thursday.
It seems a matter of time at this point, but this Pope has been counted out so many times and recovered that nothing would surprise me.
