Whenever I hear a politician claiming the polls are vastly under estimating his support, I am reminded of Walter Mondale in 1984. He spent his "get out the vote" funds in a series of rallies to try and drum up some enthusiasm. After all, where the campaign was at that time, 'get out the vote' wasn't going to do it if there was not vote to get out. I remember his stump speech for the rallies claiming there was a vast unreported ground swell for his candidacy that the polls just weren't measuring. It helped to buck up the morale of his base, but obviously the unreported support also failed to vote.
