What’s the Matter with Thomas Frank

All day Drudge has been running a link to a story that claims that serial-moron Paul Begala believes that Republicans want to kill him. While it’s pretty clear that the quote is taken out of context (he seems to be saying that terrorists want to kill us all), what’s more troubling are the asinine statements from Thomas Frank, author of the book “What’s the Matter with Kansas.”

Frank asserts the following:

Franklin Roosevelt got us in World War II. They dragged the Republicans kicking and screaming. They didn’t want to get in that war. They didn’t have any problem with Hitler.

Wrong on all counts, but the subtext is that taking out a fascist dictator was necessary and proper. Yet then he goes on to say that Saddam Hussein

was a horrible (sic), a dictator, a butcher, a tyrant, a mass murderer — as evil as they come, [but] I don’t think he was a threat to the U.S. at the time.

As evil as they come, but no threat?

This is as clear a representation of the intellectual bankruptcy of the left as you can get. If the lesson of WWII and the Cold War was that totalitarianism unchecked tends toward evil, then the Bush doctrine should be embraced by self-described progressives. And yet their blind hatred for all things W. has led them 180 degrees away from what they purport to be their core values.

Core Values?? Don't make me laugh. The lefty Democrats have no values,, ethical or moral. Just tell me when was the last time you had one make a truthful statement, When was the last time you heard one say something good about America. When was the last time they said something good about our troops who are protecting their rear ends. Ever since Bush caught them trying to pull a "Mayor Daily" and steal the 2000 Election, they have made a major effort to run America into the ground. There is not a level low enough that they will not stoop to to regain the power of the Presidency and Congress.

Herb, remove your head from your posterior and you will very soon hear alll of those things.

James, if your rebuttal is that the statement sounds silly, that is your opinion, but if it implies that "evil as they come" and "not threatening to U.S. national security" cannot co-exist, your logic does not resemble my Earth logic. There are a lot of evil tyrants who should be opposed still in power, but war is an awfully imprecise sledgehammer. You think it was one worth using in this case. FIne. But your statements about the intellectual bankruptcy of the left are childish whacking of straw-men.

Even though I don't often agree with what I read at this site, I had thought it was intellectualy honest.

Carpeicthus, I am pleased that you have confirmed the points of my comment. And I must say that your "Earth Logic" is in keeping with the lying Democrat line of being from another planet and trying to convince that you are from Earth.

the troops "protecting our rears"

HOW??

Herb you are a fool

this is a givernment protecting itself and its money and convincing people like you that independent thought is a crime.

Well Lt Bell, I have never thought that "independent thought" is or was a crime. However the lack of any ethics and morals to achieve an end is certainly below the foundations of our country. And YES, our troops are protecting our "rear ends" and if you can't see this, then you had best start "protecting" your own. Perhaps you should start your own country and protect yourself from terrorist, thieves and thugs like Saddam Hussein and see how long you last in their kind of world. I really feel sorry for you and those like you who lack the morals and ethics to recognize liars and despites as "Their Hero's" and would do or say anything to convince good people to their way of thought.

Leave it to a right winger to take a quote completely out of context. I was at the conference. If you want to use evidence, use entire quotes rather than picking and choosing what fits your narrow ideology. If you want to see what Begala and Frank REALLY said, go to campusprogress.org where you can watch the footage of the conference. As you will see, Begala said that the terrorists want to kill us, not republicans. You have taken this quote completely out of context by a linguistic convenience only. When are we ever going to be all Americans again? The terrorists love our division.

The Thomas Frank quote is taken out of context as well, I challenge the author to use the entire quote which includes three or four sentences before that and three of four sentecnes after that.. Come on, do it.
