I have a feeling if that guy's been getting punched, it's not entirely because of the way he votes.
The threat of violence is real. BLM officials get shot at. Forest Service people get death threats. In Kamiah I once saw an effigy labeled 'Sierra Club" hanging from a telelphone pole. All this from a state with one of the most subsidized, parasitic economies in the US. In truth the threats of violence are related to the determination of some people in Idaho to simultaneously cling to the image of independence while also demanding that public owned resources be misamanaged and abused to increase the profitablility of their subsidized use of the resources. I retaliate by boycotting beef. (Haven't eaten any in thirty years).
I go camping in Idaho regularly and the stuff you read in the local papers is very scarey. The local culture is based on a strong sense of entitlement, plus HUGE snobbery about the essential superiority of small town people, plus faux victimization complex because the rest of the world doesn't kiss their asses sufficiently.. Nasty mix.

I used to live in Nampa. Idaho is probably the most beautiful state in the nation but the real treasure in the treasure state are the people. I'm a native Kentuckian and have a thick hillbilly accent. In most states I'm treated like a dim witted farm clod. (I'm not the smartest guy on the web but I am sporting a better than average IQ) In Idaho I was treated with a huge amount of dignity and respect. I hope to retire there. 'Maybe buy some land in Salmon, ID!!! Or run for office.
